Leaks regarding the upcoming Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are now placing the devices in the $400 range, with little compromise in terms of hardware.

Google has been launching the same types of devices for a few years now, and only the name change was significant. The Nexus and Pixel devices were regarded as reference models for the industry, and the industry listened, at least at first.

Even if Google’s phone were never a real competitor for other big companies, they were consistent when it came to quality and technological advancements. In fact, last year’s Pixel 3, with its incredible Night Mode, pushed everyone to get better cameras. One year later, the entire industry is benefiting from a massive jump in camera quality.

Cheaper models for everyone

The first Google-made phones were really cheap, and developers flocked to buy them. They were good, reliable, and running stock Android. In time, Google phones got more and more expensive, so developers weren’t all that giddy to get the latest version.

Google now aims to correct this problem by releasing, for the first time, midrange devices. Their names are Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Latest leaks from Droid-Life revealed that they would arrive in three distinct colors, white, purple, and black. But the best part is the hardware and the price.

First of all, Pixel 3a will most likely feature a 5.6-inch display and a 3,000mAh battery, while the Pixel 3a XL will have a slightly larger 6.0-inch screen and a bigger 3,700mAh battery. And here’s the kicker. Both phones will ship with the same 12.2MP Dual Pixel rear camera, 4GB RAM, and a Snapdragon 670 processor.

Other features like Active Edge and fingerprint sensors are also implemented, so all in all, the two phones look great on paper, which takes us to price point. The smaller one, Pixel 3a will ship starting at $399, and Pixel 3a XL at $479. Prices will go up with the larger storage options.

Google is really bad at keeping secrets, and all of this information is most likely true. Google I/O is scheduled to begin on May 7th, and we’re going to get more details then. Stay tuned.
