The Pixel Watch could launch as soon as the next year

We’ve known for a while that Google is thinking of launching a smartwatch, but up to this point, the company is yet to come up with such a product.

In the meantime, the search giant has also acquired Fitbit, a company that’s still operating independently, so many believe the likelihood of Google launching its very own smartwatch is very small.

And yet, a report from BI indicates that Google hasn’t given up on launching its own Pixel Watch.

In fact, the project is making good progress, with Google planning to release it at some point in the summer of 2022. Codenamed Rohan, the new watch is likely to be round and sport virtually no bezels, so in theory, it’ll be as modern as it gets.

The device will come with its very own proprietary bands, as Google most likely wants to go the same route like Apple and create a large ecosystem of accessories around the smartwatch.

Possible launch next year

Interestingly, Google doesn’t plan super-advanced health capabilities on this watch, and this makes perfect sense. The company probably doesn’t want its Pixel Watch to cannibalize Fitbit’s lineup, so Google will most likely focus mostly on the smartwatch capabilities of its device.

On the other hand, the Pixel Watch is expected to feature Fitbit integration. The device will run Wear OS, with Google planning to use the Pixel Watch as a pioneering device for the operating system.

Very little is known about the price, but The Verge writes that the Pixel Watch could be more expensive than a Fitbit device. So in theory, the Pixel Watch could cost more than $299, which is currently the price tag of the Fitbit Sense.

Needless to say, Google has remained completely tight-lipped on everything regarding its potential smartwatch, so don’t be too surprised if no Pixel Watch sees daylight in the summer of 2022.
