Some devices are getting a one-year extended warranty

Google’s Pixel 5a 5G is theoretically quite a new device, as it’s not even a year old, but the parent company is already announced a one-year extended repair campaign.

The Redmond-based software giant says that some Pixel 5a 5G units might come with certainly display issues, and this is why it’s extending the warranty for this particular component by one year.

In other words, if you’re device is experiencing certain display problems even after the warranty expires, you should be able to get it repaired if you’re covered by the one-year extended repair program.

Program only running in the U.S. and Japan

The program, however, only takes place in the United States and Japan, and at this point, it’s not yet clear if there’s a chance to see it expanding to other regions as well.

“Google is offering a one-year extended repair program for Pixel 5a (5G)s purchased in the U.S. and Japan for certain display-related issues. Certain types of display failures that show as a blank or black screen when the phone is on may be covered. For any other issues with your phone, you can browse the Pixel Phone Help Center, visit the Pixel community, or ask your question to our Twitter account @MadeByGoogle,” Google says.

Google says it has already reached out to some of the affected customers to tell them about the required repairs. If you believe your Pixel is suffering from the same problem but Google hasn’t contacted you, there’s a dedicated form to let you get in touch with the company.

“We contacted customers we believe may have been affected by this issue. If you purchased your device through Google Store, and experienced this issue before June 30, 2022 and paid for a repair, but didn’t receive an email from Google, please fill out this form,” the company explains.
