14 DAY TRIAL // Google is believed to be working on a brand-new Google Chrome feature that will allow users to drag tabs from one browser to another.
While at first glance such a feature doesn’t make sense, the idea behind it comes in handy to people who use more than just one browser and want to easily load a specific page in a different one.
The best example in this case is a developer who needs to test a specific app or website in more than just one browser, so simply dragging one tab from an app to another would be the fastest way to do it.
For the time being, it looks like Google’s plan is to support all browsers that come with tabs, but specifics in this regard are yet to be offered, so I’m wondering if non-Chromium browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, would work as well.
Flag available in Chrome Canary
As per ChromeStory, an experimental flag has already been added to the latest version of Google Chrome Canary, but for the time being, it’s not working, probably as Google is still polishing it.
“Mix browser type tabs – Allows tabs to be dragged between any browsers that support tabs, including apps,” the flag description reads.
According to this description, the flag will be available on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Chrome OS.
It goes without saying that features like this come and go given the Canary version of the browser is just an experimental platform, but I believe that moving tabs from one app to another is something that Google wants to happen, and the introduction of the flag is the first step in this regard.
It could take a while until such an idea goes live in production builds of Google Chrome, but we’ll keep an eye on its development and let you know when you should be able to give it a try in the Canary build of the browser.
