Despite all the tricks that Microsoft tried lately

Google Chrome has managed to improve its market share in October 2018, according to data provided by NetMarketShare, and while Microsoft Edge also recovered too, the difference between the two continues to be huge.

Google’s browser jumped from 66.28 percent share in September to 66.43 percent last month, obviously remaining the number one choice when it comes to programs to surf the web.

The new Windows 10 browser, on the other hand, increased its market share from 4.08 percent to 4.28 percent, remaining the fourth app in the charts after Chrome, Firefox, and its predecessor Internet Explorer.

Mozilla Firefox is currently the runner-up with a share of 9.25 percent, while Internet Explorer keeps going down every month and is now at 7.83 percent.

Internet Explorer isn’t getting any new features right now, but only security updates published as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle. Microsoft’s full focus in terms of browsers is Microsoft Edge, the new default in Windows 10.

The Edge push on Windows 10

Judging from these numbers, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft Edge doesn’t stand a chance against its rival, all of this despite Microsoft’s more or less controversial tactics to boost adoption of its browser. For example, the company has been pushing desktop recommendations to Windows 10 users in order to convince them to stick with Edge.

However, many of these attempts actually backfired and people moved to alternative browsers anyway, and as anyone can see in these stats, Google Chrome was the one to benefit from Microsoft’s bad idea.

Microsoft Edge, however, has expanded beyond the desktop world and is now available on mobile platforms as well. Android and iOS versions of Edge can be downloaded from app stores already and they bring Windows 10 devices and mobile platforms in sync with features like Continue on PC and Windows Timeline integration.
