A new version of Google Chrome is now available for users

Google has released another major version of Google Chrome for all supported platforms, and this time, those whose devices have already been updated to Windows 11 are getting a special update.

The new Google Chrome 96 doesn’t include too many new features, and this makes total sense, as Google has already embraced a 4-week release schedule for the browser.

This means the company is focusing less on new capabilities and more on essential polishing and security patches that can keep Google Chrome up-to-date.

But there’s one important change in Google Chrome 96, and it’s specifically aimed at Windows 11 users.

Windows 11-style menus

As spotted on reddit, Google Chrome 96 allows users to enable Windows 11-style menus with a special flag in the Experiments screen.

More specifically, Google has added a new Windows 11 Style Menus flag that allows the browser to “use Windows 11 style menus where possible,” therefore aligning with the rest of the interface in Microsoft’s fresh operating system.

By default, this flag is still disabled, most likely as Google keeps working on refining it, so expect additional news on this front in the upcoming updates.

At this point, however, it’s pretty clear the Windows 11 touches in Google Chrome are still in their early days. There’s no transparency or anything like that, so Google is probably sticking with baby steps for the time being, as it tries to make the implementation as flawless as possible.

Needless to say, this new version of Google Chrome also comes with other bug fixes under the hood, but the Mountain View-based search giant hasn’t shared such information, so it’s probably up to users to discover them now.

The automatic rollout of Google Chrome 96 is happening in stages, so if you don’t want to wait, just download the new version from the link in our article and install it manually.
