Google is working on a new Chrome feature that will allow users to create their own theme for the browser.

Right now, Google is already offering a set of pre-defined themes for Chrome, but more advanced customization isn’t possible without installing dedicated tools like extensions.

Furthermore, Google’s themes come down to basic tweaks here and there, and they include several color schemes that users can switch to in the browser. On the other hand, for any other visual customization that’s not included in Google’s pre-defined pack, there’s not much users can do.

However, the search giant is currently working on bringing a theme creator to Chrome browser, and 9to5google recently discovered code changes pointing to such a feature coming rather sooner than later.

Coming to users in the next stable Chrome update

By the looks of things, the theme creator will come with a custom color picker, and users will be able to pick their own color settings for the browser. Google Chrome will automatically create the theme and configure it in such a way that it’d look good without affecting other elements, like the Google logo on the New Tab Page.

According to the cited source, this new feature could land in Google Chrome 77, which according to Google’s own schedule, is projected to go live on September 10.

For the time being, however, it’s still a work in progress, so we should be able to give it a try in the beta builds shortly.

Meanwhile, Google has just released Google Chrome 76, a new version of the browser that comes with a series of improvements, including a new block enabled by default for Flash. Furthermore, the browser makes it harder for websites to tell when you use Incognito, so overall, the experience with the app should be much refined after the update.
