14 DAY TRIAL // The next version of Google Chrome will come with a series of improvements for desktop and mobile platforms, including one particular goodie for those on Windows 10.
Beginning with Chrome 74, the browser will adapt to the visual style used on Windows 10, which means that if you use the dark mode in the operating system, Google’s application should automatically switch to dark as well. This also works the other way around for the light theme.
At the same time, Google says that it wants its browser to tackle the motion sickness that some are experiencing because of parallax scrolling, zooming, and other motion effects that are available in the browser.
So starting with the next stable release, Chrome would come with a dedicated option in the accessibility settings that would let users “Remove animations” when browsing.
“Chrome now provides a media query, prefers-reduced-motion (part of Media Queries Level 5), that allows websites to honor these options when they are available,” Google explains.
Better protection against malicious downloads
Additionally, Google Chrome 74 will also introduce new options to prevent downloads in sandboxed iframes that lack a user gesture. A dedicated flag is already available, but Google says that it wants to Chrome to provide additional protections to users because download can expose systems to attacks.
“Even though additional security checks are done in Chrome and the operating system, we feel blocking downloads in sandboxed iframes also fits the general thought behind the sandbox. Apart from security concerns, it would be a more pleasant user experience for a click to trigger a download on the same page, compared with downloads starting automatically when a user lands on a new page, or started non-spontaneously after the click,” Google says.
Google Chrome 74 is already available in beta stage, so you can try all the aforementioned improvements on your system in advance. However, the stable version is projected to land on April 23.
