New version celebrates the 10th anniversary of the browser

Google has released a new Chrome version to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the browser, and the update is one of the biggest in a long time.

First and foremost, Google Chrome 69 has a new look, with rounded tabs and website icons that are easier to see. There’s a new color palette that’s being used, and on mobile, the browser comes with the toolbar moved to the bottom (iOS only) for easier input.

This new interface has been in testing stage for the last few months, and it’s finally available to everyone after the update to Chrome 69.

As far as the new features are concerned, Chrome 69 integrates a revamped password manager that automatically generates and stores more secure passwords.

“Chrome will save it, and next time you sign in, it’ll be there, on both your laptop and phone,” Google explains, adding that unique passwords would be generated for each website.

Smart answers

The search bar has been updated to support so-called smart answers, so you can get information without actually going to a specific page. You can find results like the local weather and information on public figures and sporting events straight in the address bar.

Additionally, Google Chrome now allows users to create and manage shortcuts to websites from the new tab page. The background of a new tab can be customized as well.

Google says that it’s also working on making the browser faster, and “we’re now rolling out a set of new experiments to improve Chrome’s startup time, latency, usage of memory, and usability.” No specifics were provided, however, with more details likely to be shared soon.

You can download Google Chrome 69 for Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, and iOS right now. On existing installs, you can also install the latest version using the built-in auto-update engine.
