While Google is still waiting for regulatory approval to purchase Fitbit, the company has already started the work on integrating its services into new products developed by the wearable device maker.

And Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 are the first two products to come with Google Assistant integration.

Fitbit has already launched both models, but the company said an update to enable Google Assistant would land at a later time. This highly anticipated update is now expected to go live in October.

Google Assistant update coming to Fitbit this winter

Today, Google reminded the world that Google Assistant integration will debut shortly on Fitbit smartwatches, with the company claiming that the debut is projected to happen in the winter.

“For the moments when you’re looking for quick answers with a flick of your wrist, you can now turn to two new smartwatches. Coming this winter, Google Assistant on the new Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Versa 3 smartwatches brings more convenience to your wrist, making it easy to start a Fitbit Exercise, control your timers, manage your tasks or add something like hand sanitizer to your shopping list–all on-the-go, using just your voice and without having to reach for your phone,” Google said.

Google is expected to receive the go-ahead from the European Commission to take over Fitbit by December, according to people familiar with the matter.

Fitbit devices ship with Alexa, but once Google Assistant will go live with the said software update, users would be able to enable what assistant they want to use on their smartwatches. Only the Versa 3 and Sense would get Google Assistant integration, despite previous models, including the Versa 2, already coming with Alexa, so technically, the could be updated with Google’s digital assistant too if Fitbit wants to make it happen.
