It’s about time, as iPhone users have had it for a while

Google has recently started the rollout of a rather highly anticipated feature on its very own mobile operating system.

The option to delete the last 15 minutes of the search history is now rolling out gradually to Android users out there. Discovered by Mishaal Rahman, the feature is only available for a small number of users on Android for the time being, but Google has confirmed for The Verge that the rollout is underway as we speak.

“We’re currently rolling this feature out on the Google app for Android and expect it to be available to everyone using the app in the next few weeks,” Google spokesperson Ned Adriance has been cited as saying by Verge. “We’re continuing to explore ways to bring this helpful feature to other surfaces.”

Already available on iPhone

The rollout of this feature on Android devices comes later than expected, as the Mountain View-based search giant originally promised to release it in 2021.

“You can also try out a new way to quickly delete your last 15 minutes of saved Search history with the single tap of a button. This feature is available in the Google app for iOS, and is coming to the Android Google app later this year,” the original announcement read.

While nobody knows for sure why Google failed to ship the feature to Android devices as originally promised, worth knowing is the same capability has been around for a long time on iPhones. The debut on iOS happened in July, only a few months after Google previously announced it at I/O in May.

At this point, the rollout on Android is still underway, so it could take a while until it shows up for you in the Google app on the mobile device.
