The development team behind the GNOME Builder IDE (Integrated Development Environment) have released on May 6, 2016, a new maintenance build in the stable 3.20 series of the software.

GNOME Builder 3.20.4 is now the latest and most advanced version of the open-source IDE application that lets aspiring developers get started with building robust graphical apps for the GNOME desktop environment. And according to the internal release notes (attached at the end of the article), it's quite an update.

Release highlights of GNOME Builder 3.20.4 include re-implementation of support for opening remote files, support for the $VALAFLAGS, $CFLAGS, and $CXXFLAGS variables for projects that don't have autotools support, multiple improvements to the automake VALAFLAGS extraction, as well as several CSS style tweaks.

Furthermore, GNOME Builder now ensures that the "projects" directory is available during start up, the built-in search functionality receives some much-needed improvements, much better default values are now displayed for the number of build workers, and symlinks are now being ignored when mining ctags directories.

Reindent support now available when selecting multiple lines of code

The list of features implemented in the GNOME Builder 3.20.4 release continues with support for reindent when attempting to select multiple lines of code, the ability to load gtksourceview style schemes directly from the "gedit" directory, as well as support for building projects in ~/.local, especially for GNOME shell extensions.

It also looks like the Vala integration is now capable of loading both versioned and unversioned vapi directories, and GNOME Builder will no longer perform a full build when ctags are generated via the automake tool. Lastly, autotools will no longer perform an autogen operation when the project is being cleaned.

As usual, several bug fixes reported by users since the previous version of the software have been addressed, so please check out the changelog below for more details. Several language translations were updated as well in GNOME Builder 3.20.4, whose sources you can download right now via our website. Happy hacking!
