If Android and iPhone aren’t necessarily your cup of tea, and instead you purchased a Linux phone, you’re probably wondering how the out-of-the-box experience is going to be.

The Librem 5 phone included in the Dogwood batch will obviously come with a series of pre-loaded apps that will allow you to perform the essential things straight out of the box with minimal setup.

In a blog post today, Purism reveals the apps coming to Librem 5 buyers, including for Calls, Chat, and Web, which let you do things like making phone calls, send and receive text messages, and browse the web, respectively.

Furthermore, the device will obviously come with a settings app pre-installed to let you configure things like the network, online accounts privacy, sound, notifications, and language. A contact manager will be offered as well, and so will be a standard calculator similar to the one available on pretty much any other mobile phone.

Shipments to customers to begin later this month

And last but not least, you’re getting productivity tools, including a document viewer and a text editor, as well as a terminal and an app monitor to keep an eye on usage.

According to Purism, the Librem 5 Dogwood batch for customers pre-orders is projected to go live at the end of April, so we’re some two weeks away from the moment the first units will ship to buyers.

“The Purism team will continue the rapid pace of development on the Librem 5’s software, PureOS, and Librem One. We have a number of exciting developments and new features to share for these products and service in the coming weeks,” Purism says.

The Dogwood batch will be followed by another batch codenamed Evergreen and supposed to go live in mid-August for customers pre-orders.
