Microsoft pushes PC Health Check as an automatic update

The “Get Windows 10” nightmare is about to return, as Microsoft has recently started offering the PC Health Check app as an automatic update for most devices running Windows 10 version 2004.

More specifically, the PC Health Check app, which is responsible for helping determine if your device meets the requirements to install Windows 11, is no longer a manual download but an automatic update that is delivered via Windows Update.

Microsoft says devices running Windows 10 version 2004 and later will see the PC Health Check app as update KB5005463. Worth knowing, however, is the update is exclusive to Windows 10 version 2004, which is required to install Windows 11 in the first place anyway.

“This update installs the PC Health Check application onto Windows 10, version 2004 and later devices. However, we will not install PC Health Check on Windows 11 devices. PC Health Check includes diagnostics to monitor device health and troubleshooting to improve performance, all from the convenience of a single dashboard,” Microsoft says.

“This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update,” it adds.

Only aimed at Windows 10 version 2004 and later (not Windows 11, though)

The PC Health Check app comes in handy if you’re still on Windows 10 and want to determine if your device meets the system requirements for Windows 11. Most likely, Microsoft is making it an automatic update to more accurately determine what devices should be offered the Windows 11 update.

“By default, when you open the PC Health Check application, it will automatically install important application updates when they become available. PC Health Check users will not be able to turn off automatic updates,” the company explains.

If you’re on Windows 11 or on an earlier version of Windows 10, you obviously won’t see the update in Windows Update.
