Pentoo 2015.0 Release Candidate 5 out now for public testing

The Pentoo Linux development team has proudly announced today, August 2, 2016, the availability for download of the fifth Release Candidate (RC) build towards the Pentoo 2015.0 GNU/Linux operating system.

We don't write so often about the Pentoo GNU/Linux operating system because new releases are being made available to the public online when a new DEF CON event (the world's largest annual hacker convention) takes place. So yes, it's now a tradition to see a new Pentoo release around a DEF CON conference.

On this occasion, we would like to inform our readers that Pentoo is a GNU/Linux distribution based on the powerful and highly customizable Gentoo Linux operating system, designed from the offset to become a penetration testing distro for security professionals and ethical hackers.

Pentoo 2015.0 getting closer and closer to a final release

Pentoo 2015.0 has been in development for so long that we can't even remember, but with this fifth Release Candidate (RC) version out, we do hope that the final, production-ready version is getting closer and closer to becoming reality. Of course, Pentoo 2015.0 RC5 comes with up-to-date technologies and core components, such as Linux kernel 4.4.8 LTS and Xfce 4.12.

Also new in the Pentoo 2015.0 Release Candidate 5 update, the root account is no longer enabled by default when using the Live session. Users will be automatically logged in with the "pentoo" user, who, of course, has administrative privileges (sudo access), and it looks like the menu now runs sudo automatically. CUDA/OpenCL Enhanced cracking software has been added as well.

"With a host of new and updated packages we hope you love this Pentoo release more than any previous release. We take security seriously, not just in keeping our packages up to date, but with system and kernel hardening, and now our latest update to run as a user by default," reads today's announcement.

The Pentoo 2015.0 Release Candidate 5 Live ISO image is available for download right now via our website, but please try to keep in mind that it's currently only available for 64-bit (amd64) computers and that this is still a pre-release version, not suitable to use it as your daily driver.
