New smartwatches announced by Garmin at CES

Garmin has just unveiled two new smartwatches as part of its CES appearance, though on the other hand, the highly-anticipated debut of the Fenix 7 is still nowhere to be seen.

The new models announced today are the Venu 2 Plus and the Vivomove Sport. We’ve known for a while these two were scheduled to launch in January, but at the same time, people familiar with the matter suggested they could land alongside the Fenix 7 as well.

At this point, it’s not yet clear if the Fenix 7 has been pushed back once again (the device was originally projected to launch last year but was eventually delayed because of the component shortage) or Garmin is still planning a second announcement this month specifically for this model.

The Venu 2 Plus

As you’d expect given its name, the Venu 2 Plus is obviously based on the Venu, though it comes with a 43mm design versus 45mm on the original model.

The major upgrade, however, takes place under the hood, as Garmin has added support for digital assistants like Google Assistant and Siri.

In other words, you can now use voice commands to send text messages, control your connected devices, start playing some music if the tunes are stored on the phone, and pretty much everything else you can do with a digital assistant.

The Venu 2 Plus is available for $449.99.

The Vivomove Sport will cost $179.99, and it’s essentially a more affordable and stylish alternative to Garmin’s rugged smartwatches, while a the same time sporting the essential health tracking features.

“The vívomove Sport has the appearance of a traditional watch with the essentials of a smartwatch. It is designed with real ticking watch hands and a hidden display that only appears when needed. Interact with the touchscreen, and the hands dynamically move away,” Garmin explains.
