Garmin has recently announced the new Venu 2 Plus, but without a doubt, most Garmin fans out there are still waiting for the Fenix 7 to finally see the daylight.

Originally supposed to launch in 2020, the Fenix 7 has been allegedly pushed back to early 2022, and it’s believed the component shortage could be one of the culprits.

We’re being told the Fenix 7 could finally be announced on January 18, and according to a new report, this is what we should expect on the upcoming device.

First and foremost, the Garmin Fenix 7 will launch in the following three versions:

  • Fenix 7 (Solar) – standard version also expected
  • Fenix 7X Solar)
  • Fenix 7S (Solar) – standard version also expected

If you were hoping for a resolution upgrade, that’s not going to happen. On the other hand, if you hoped for touch input on the Fenix 7, this will indeed be available on the upcoming models.

The Fenix 7 will come with a 1.3-inch transflective display (just like the previous models), though the big novelty this time is the addition of touch input. Garmin has apparently found a way to make this possible, though it remains to be seen how well the whole thing is going to work and how responsible this low-resolution display will be to the touch. The Garmin Fenix 7 will sport a resolution of just 260x260 pixels.

The Fenix 7X Solar will be equipped with a similar 1.4-inch display with a resolution of 280x280 pixels, while the Fenix 7S will boast a 1.2-inch screen with 240x240 pixels resolution.

Needless to say, the Fenix 7 will be a rugged device with impressive battery life, and the official figures indicate the device should last for up to 18 days in smartwatch mode – the battery life drops to 11 days in the case of the 7S.

The same army of sensors as on the previous models will continue to be offered (though ECG will also be available), so in theory, the Fenix 7 is all about the touch input and not much else.

In other words, if you were actually drooling for a rugged Fenix with upgraded smartwatch capabilities, the new Garmin Epix is the one you’ll probably want. You can find out more about the Epix 2 here.
