Company announces new solution for Chinese customers

Huawei has recently announced a new service called Huawei Cloud PC that enables its customers to stream Windows 10 to their mobile devices.

This project essentially enables Windows 10 to be used on a smartphone either as a stand-alone device or when it is connected to a bigger screen.

Presented at CES Asia 2018, Huawei Cloud PC relies on Huawei’s own servers that create a virtualized Windows 10 PC which can be used on a mobile device with the company’s processing power exclusively. This means that despite the limited capabilities of a phone, Windows 10 will experience no slowdown, as the operating system would run entirely on Huawei’s computers.

Using Huawei Desktop Protocol, this new solution allows Huawei PCs to double as a companion device, offering access to stored files or the camera. External displays can be connected to the phone via USB-C, with Windows 10 then streamed to the bigger screen, where users can plug in mice and keyboards for a more PC-like experience.

Huawei Cloud PC will require latest-generation smartphones, and will be available with Huawei P20, Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate RS, and Huawei MediaPad M5 tablet. It will be initially launched in China, the home market of Huawei, as the company says that it wants to offer uncompromised experience in terms of response times and performance.

However, Huawei doesn’t rule out the possibility of launching Cloud PC in other markets as well, though for the time being, it remains to be seen how customers receive these new features.

A hands-on demo published by NotebookItalia shows how Windows 10 would run on Huawei’s Android devices, and which it’s clearly not the most convenient solution to use the OS on a small display, it’s certainly a lot more useful when connected to the bigger screen.

It remains to be seen how much this functionality is going to cost, but it’s expected to be rather expensive, as Huawei could mostly target enterprises in need of productivity on the go.
