Lumia 950 XL is Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 Mobile flagship, and while the software giant has in the meantime abandoned its mobile platform, this device keeps making the rounds every once in a while thanks to a series of successful experiments started by developers in the user community.

This is what happens today, as the folks over at WindowsUnited managed to get full Windows 10 up and running on a Lumia 950 XL with pretty decent performance.

This isn’t the first time we see Windows 10 installed on a Lumia phone, but as you can see in the video below, the project has evolved so much that it’s working nearly flawlessly at this point.

The Lumia 950 XL isn’t obviously the best hardware to run full Windows 10, though it seems like it’s still up to task, even though more than three years have already passed since its launch in late 2015.

However, this once again shows that Microsoft’s phones were so ahead of their time, with this Lumia 950 XL, in particular, introducing features like biometrics via Windows Hello.

In the meantime, the rest of the platform is currently in its last days, as Microsoft will retire support in December. The company recommends users who are still running Windows 10 Mobile on their devices to switch to Android or iOS.

“With the Windows 10 Mobile OS end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device. Microsoft’s mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices,” Microsoft says.
