One of the biggest changes in Windows 11 is the removal of the live tiles and the migration to a static Start menu that uses an approach originally introduced in Windows 10X.

In other words, the live tiles are completely gone in the new operating system, and suddenly the world discovered everybody actually loves this feature.

While Microsoft has so far shown zero intentions to bring back the live tiles in Windows 11, a new app published on the Microsoft Store makes the impossible possible.

The so-called Live Tiles Anywhere does exactly what its name suggests, bringing live tiles to the Start menu, the desktop, and even the widgets screen.

Support for Windows 11

Originally developed for Windows 10 but also working just fine on Windows 11, Live Tiles Anywhere comes with a very straightforward UI and support for Win32 apps, UWP apps, links, commands, and other protocols. So in theory, you can create a live tile out of anything.

“[The app lets you] create custom Live Tiles and add pin them on the Start Menu, on your Desktop as an icon or create a floating widget. All four sizes are supported! The ‘Live’ aspect of the Live Tiles is present both on the Start Menu tiles and for the widgets on Desktop. All apps with a Live Tile are supported, both on Windows 10 and Windows 11,” the description of Live Tiles Anywhere published on the Microsoft Store reads.

One of the best things about this app is that it’s completely free of charge, so you can install it on your device without paying a single cent. There are no ads or in-app purchases, so it’s pretty much the best way to bring the live tiles back and somehow get the desktop widgets that Microsoft never wanted to create.
