PCmover Express goes free ahead of Windows 7 EOL

Windows 7 is projected to be discontinued on January 14, but statistics show that nearly 30 percent of the desktop computers out there are still running it, with a substantial number of users not even considering upgrading their devices.

Intel, Microsoft, and Laplink think they can convince more users to make the switch from Windows 7 to a supported Windows version by offering them a free software application that simplifies the upgrade with a set of additional tools.

PCmover Express, one of the leading migration solutions for Windows users, is now available free of charge ahead of the Windows 7 end-of-life, taking care of the transfer of documents, user profiles, settings, and more.

On the other hand, what’s important to note is that PCmover Express, despite coming free of charge, is not as capable as the Professional version. Its capabilities only include tools to transfer files, data and settings, migrate user profiles, and receive transfer assistance.

PCmover Professional also adds support for transferring applications, restoring old PC images to the new OS, and transferring hard-drive contents from an older computer.

Windows 7 EOL

As for the reasons so many people stick with Windows 7 and refuse the upgrade, it’s not only the migration process the one that’s causing headaches.

Windows 7 is the last “traditional” Windows version, as its successor, Windows 8, migrated to a modern approach with a store and focus on touch. Windows 10 continued this concept, so some Windows 7 users are concerned that upgrading their devices would eventually remove the familiarity factor that they enjoy on the desktop.

Without support, Windows 7 would no longer receive updates and security patches, which means that any vulnerability discovered in the operating system wouldn’t get fixed by Microsoft.
