iPhone maker Foxconn has been required to temporarily close its production facility in Vietnam due to the global health issue, as the number of confirmed cases in the region is on the rise.

In addition, Luxshare Precision also needs to suspend its operations at its local facility for the very same reason, with the production lines to be up and running again in two weeks' time.

A report from Bloomberg reveals that both companies have already complied with the government requirements, with Foxconn saying it recorded only “minimal impact” to its operations.

Le Anh Duong, chairman of the People’s Committee of Bac Giang Province, says factories are required to temporarily shut down operations as the country is fighting with the new coronavirus.

“They are implementing our request to temporarily close down entire factories and we will send health officials in to help them reorganize to be able to quickly resume operations and restrain the virus’ spread at the same time,” he was quoted as saying by the cited source. “We hope to resume operations of these factories in two weeks to limit disruptions to the global supply chain.”

All iPhones launching in September

As compared to last year, when Apple had to stick with a gradual release of the iPhone 12, Apple plans the iPhone 13 to be announced in September according to the original calendar.

While at this point it’s not yet clear if the temporary shutdown of Foxconn’s Vietnam plant could impact this plan, Apple has moved all planning phases of the iPhone 13 ahead of the typical schedule in an attempt to deal with any potential delay caused by such closures.

Apple will launch four different iPhone models this year, all successors to the current devices, including an iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
