Hector Xavier Monsegur cautioned on Saturday that cyberattacks against United States infrastructure IT are becoming worse and worse, says Yahoo Finance

Monsegur said, "We do not have enough people to deal with the threats, we don't have enough law enforcement that actually understands cyber and all of the organizations that I've worked with around the nation and we see in the news all the time, you know, still haven't reached a certain threshold in their security posture".

“So we're going to continue to see these attacks; this happens every day. And it’s going to get worse and worse, it will be exponential”.

Monsegur claimed that the United States could not fully rely on cybersecurity companies employed by the federal government. For now the infrastructure is based on SISA, well-known worldwide for its preventive measures.

He emphasized that cybersecurity organizations must work together and there is an opportunity for progress if more external support is used.

New Cybersecurity Agency to prevent and combat cyberattacks

Chris Inglis was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Thursday as the first White House cybersecurity director under the recent National Defense Authorization Act. The event coincided with the Biden-Putin meeting, where major concerns were raised about the recent series of cyberattacks on U.S. key areas infrastructure. Biden claimed Wednesday that he handed Putin a list of 16 key infrastructure facilities that Russian cybercriminals should not target in response to recent  Russia-related cyberattacks.

The new organization is said to benefit from a $15 million budget, although the proposition has not yet been approved. President Biden issued an executive order last month in support of cyber defense, focusing on cyberattacks linked to Iran, North Korea, and Russia. The need for the institution comes at a point where cyberattacks are increasingly targeting key institutions and affecting the national economy.
