New fitness-oriented Apple Watch rival ready for launch

Fitbit Charge 3 is expected to launch in just a few weeks at IFA, and a leak that took place earlier today provides us with an early look at what to expect.

Just like the previous generation, the new Charge boasts a design that’s first and foremost focused on fitness, so it looks more like a band and less like a watch. This makes total sense, especially because Fitbit is already deeply committed to smartwatches with a series of other models, including the highly-successful Versa that launched earlier this year.

Fitbit Charge 3 will thus retain the look of its predecessor, but at the same time come with some welcome improvements as well. For example, the device does seem to be sleeker, possibly giving up on the side button for an all-touch input.

No word on integrated GPS

While this could be a welcome change given the global trend, moving to touch-only could also be a drawback for a fitness-oriented device, especially due to sweaty hands. Fitbit, however, is expected to prevent possible issues with further improvements in this regard, and the new Charge could come with substantial refinements in terms of durability and strength.

There are no details as to what the Charge 3 could bring as far as sensors are concerned, but there’s a chance the device would finally be waterproof, possibly coming with swimming support.

One notable improvement appears to be the set of band options for the Charge 3. The leak indicates that Fitbit may offer a perforated strap just like the Nike edition on the Apple Watch, and this version would certainly come in handy for those buying the device specifically to monitor their activities.

The debut of the Charge 3 could take place at IFA, and there’s a chance that its pricing would be similar to the one of its predecessor. Charge 2 can be purchased right now for just $119.95.
