Fitbit just unveiled Versa 2, a new smartwatch and fitness tracker that features, for the first time, a built-in microphone with Amazon Alexa, along with a number of major features such as Sleep Score, Smart Wake, and a battery that should last more than five days.

Information about the new Fitbit Versa 2 has been flowing, unofficially, for the past few weeks. But now we have official confirmation about all of those exciting new options we’ve heard about, including the addition of Amazon Alexa support.

While it might not seem like such a big deal, the addition of Alexa is vital because it means the fitness tracker now has a built-in microphone. It’s a much more integrated experience because people can simply ask Alexa for all sorts of information, or they can start various exercises.

A lot of to unpack in Versa 2

The new Versa 2 is not just a slightly better version than the previous generation, as it comes with a few new options, which seem like the obvious choice in hindsight. For example, with Sleep Score, people can now have a much better understanding of their sleep cycles, in a meaningful way.

Another feature is called Smart Wake, which enables Versa 2 users to take advantage of the continuous monitoring. As the name suggests, it can help you wake up well-rested by determining the right time during the sleeping cycle do to so.

“At Fitbit, we believe that health belongs to everyone and that people should not be priced out of having access to devices and features that can help them improve their health. That’s why we’ve designed Versa 2 to be a premium, full-featured and easy-to-use smartwatch at an accessible price point,” explained James Park, co-founder, and CEO of Fitbit.

Fitbit Versa 2 also boasts an always-on display, also a first for the company, an updated Fitbit Pay, a Spotify app, access to thousands of different faces, a battery that should last for more than five days, and all the features we already had with the original Versa.

The Versa 2 smartwatch should arrive in stores, word wide, starting with September 15, 2019, at the same price $199 price as the previous generation. Versa 2 Special Edition is available for $229, featuring navy and pink with a copper rose aluminum case and smoke with a mist grey case, along with a premium jacquard woven band.
