Fitbit is now rolling out one of the most requested features to two of its high-end devices, the Fitbit Versa and Fitbit Ionic, which all female users around the globe have been expected for so long.

In mid-March 2018, when Fitbit introduced the Fitbit Versa smartwatch and Fitbit Ace fitness wristband for kids, the wireless-enabled wearable technology company announced that it will add a new feature requested by its female users for some time now, namely female health tracking or menstrual cycle monitoring.

According to a survey conducted by Fitbit a while ago, 80 percent of female users have no idea how many phases are in a menstrual cycle, and more than 70 percent of them can't correctly identify the average length of a menstrual cycle. As such, Fitbit introduces the female health tracking to its Fitbit Ionic and Versa smartwatches.

"This new in-app experience and on-device experience is designed to help you learn more about your menstrual cycle—and your body—so you can better understand how it affects other aspects of your health and fitness. And that’s just the beginning," said Fitbit in the blog announcement.

The feature is available only to female users age 13 and older, and it promises to help them better know their bodies, provide additional information about your symptoms so you can show them to your doctor, and personalized insights based on the data you log into your menstrual calendar, which gets smarter in time.

Available now with the latest Fitbit for iOS and Android apps

Fitbit said that all of its female registered users would receive a notification throughout May 2018 that female health tracking is available, and it appears that the first such alerts already started popping up, allowing female Fitbit users to opt-in and complete onboarding, or opt out of the female health tracking feature.

For those who aren't registered as a female user but still want to use the feature, you'll have to make sure you have the latest Fitbit for iOS or Fitbit for Android app installed, then tap "Edit” at the bottom of the dashboard and add the "female health tracking" feature. The rollout should arrive at all Fitbit female users this month.
