Microsoft is entering the final development stages of the next Windows 10 update codenamed Redstone 5 and due in the fall of 2018, so the company is now beginning to concentrate on what’s next for its operating system.

Naturally, the next big release is supposed to be Redstone 6, and according to Microsoft’s typical release schedule, it should land in the spring of 2019.

BuildFeed has recently spotted the very first build part of the Redstone 6 branch. Windows 10 build 18200 has been compiled internally for testing purposes, and it’s kicking off work on another major feature update that Windows insiders should be allowed to try out very soon.

Redstone 6 builds coming

With Windows 10 Redstone 5 nearly feature-complete, Microsoft has suspended the Skip Ahead ring in anticipation of Redstone 6. The company says it will re-open this particular ring once the first Redstone 6 build is ready in order to only allow active insiders to register, while the other rings, namely Fast, Slow, and Release Preview would continue to get Redstone 5 builds until the RTM is shipped.

For the time being, however, no timing information is available as to when the first Redstone 6 build is supposed to be released to insiders.

But given the work on it has already started, Microsoft will probably spend a few more weeks in the Redstone 5 branch in order to make sure that its next release is ready to roll before beginning pushing RS6 builds to the Skip Ahead ring.

Windows 10 Redstone 5 should be finalized in September when insiders in all rings should receive the RTM build as well. The public rollout is projected to begin in October to production devices, and judging from how fast it advanced in the case of the April 2018 Update, it may be completed by the end of the year.
