Samsung is expected to replace the already-famous Samsung Experience UI with a stock version of Android for what could be the company’s first Android Go smartphone launching later this year.

And according to a new leak, the device might carry the model number SM-J260 and come with specifications which, just as expected considering the Android Go approach, would place it in the lower-end to mid-range category.

Specifications published by TechieDrive indicate that Samsung’s new smartphone could be powered by a 1.4 GHz quad-core Exynos 7570 processor paired with just 1GB of RAM. Again, keep in mind that with Android Go, this device isn’t supposed to be a flagship, but a more affordable smartphone aimed at a limited set of markets.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that all specs would be low end, however. Samsung, for instance, wants to use a 5.0-inch Super AMOLED screen, and judging from the company’s know-how in the production of displays, there’s a good chance this would be the main strong point against the other similar devices in the same category.

Samsung is currently one of the largest display manufacturers in the world, and it also makes the 5.8-inch notch-based panel used on the iPhone X.

Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box

The South Korean firm will equip its first Android Go smartphone with an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel unit on the front for selfies and video calls.

Power will come from a 2,600 mAh battery, enough to keep the device going for approximately one day, though considering the specs, longer battery per charge could be offered.

Somewhat surprising is that this affordable model would run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, though this version isn’t even available for the Galaxy S9 flagships. But given that it runs an unmodified version of Android, it doesn’t require any additional tweaks, and it’s easier for Samsung to deliver updates to the most recent versions.

There are no details as to when the device could see daylight and how much it is going to cost but expect more news in this regard in the coming weeks.
