Microsoft has recently released a new Microsoft Edge build to Dev channel users, and this time, the company has included quite an important lineup of new features.

This is the first release that takes place for Microsoft Edge 111, and Dev channel users are the ones that can try it out right now.

First and foremost, the new version of the browser can send notifications to the user in case another app changes the search engine and the homepage. This is a security feature that should theoretically prevent the hijacking of these settings in the browser.

“Microsoft Edge will now notify you if an external program illegitimate changes your start page and search engine settings and restore your previous settings,” Microsoft explains in the release notes of Edge Dev build 111.0.1619.2 (currently available only for Windows users, with the software giant claiming that Mac users will get it at a later time).

Then, the new build also includes additional features, such an option to hide duplicates in History. Microsoft says it has also added support for importing a passwords CSV file, as well as a search bar in the customize sidebar screen to add sites.

And last but not least, Edge 111 adds a “Personalize my top sites” in customize sidebar option in the Sidebar setting, so if you’re using this feature, the experience overall should be better now.

There are lots of crashes that Microsoft has resolved, including on Linux and Mac:

  • Fixed browser crash when removing apps from the Sidebar.
  • Fixed browser crash related to memory errors.
  • Fixed browser crash related to Address bar search.
  • Fixed browser crash related to Visual search.
  • Fixed browser crash related to Find on Page.
  • Fixed browser crash related to Image editor in the Sidebar pane.
  • Fixed PDF viewer crash related to highlighter, links, and keyboard focus.

Given this is just the first Dev 111 build, there’s a chance you’d still come across some bugs, and this is why the new release isn’t recommended for the stable channel.
