Mozilla has recently announced that Firefox is now available on Windows 11 from the Microsoft Store, with the browser coming with the full feature lineup as its standard sibling.

With the release of Windows 11, Microsoft has lifted plenty of Microsoft Store limitations, including several aimed at browser makers.

The company now allows developers to bring their browsers to the Microsoft Store without any changes required for the engine. In other words, browsers can stick with their very own engines, unlike on other platforms where they must use the native browsing engine.

And this change was received with much enthusiasm by browser developers out there, including Mozilla.

The browser is already live for users

The Firefox maker applauded Microsoft for its updated policy, and this week, the company officially released its browser in the Microsoft Store for Windows 11 users.

“The engine is responsible for loading web pages from sites and displaying them on your screen so that you can see and interact with them. Until recently, Microsoft’s store policies required that all web browsers use the engine that Microsoft had built into their platform which meant we were unable to ship the Firefox you know and love in the Windows Store,” Mozilla says.

“This was not only bad for you but bad for the web because it meant that the web on Windows 11 would only have the features Microsoft was willing to provide. People deserve choice and we’re glad there is an easier option to download Firefox on Windows.”

Firefox comes to the Microsoft Store with its already famous feature lineup, so you get pretty much all the latest improvements powered by WebRender and Quantum CSS, as well as new features like Colorways, Total Cookie Protection, and DNS over HTTPS.

Needless to say, Firefox can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft Store as long as you’re running Windows 11.
