A new version of the browser is up for grabs

Mozilla has released another stable version of Firefox, and this time, the company has included significant improvements.

Firefox 95 is therefore available for download on all supported platforms, and worth knowing is the Microsoft Store version has also been updated. This one can be downloaded on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

What’s new in Firefox 95

The most notable improvement in Firefox 95 is the introduction of a new sandboxing technology called RLBox and specifically supposed to make the browser more secure by isolating the subcomponents of the application.

The new tech was created in partnership with the security researchers at the University of California San Diego and the University of Texas, Mozilla says.

“RLBox is a big win for us on several fronts: it protects our users from accidental defects as well as supply-chain attacks, and it reduces the need for us to scramble when such issues are disclosed upstream. As such, we intend to continue applying to more components going forward. Some components are not a good fit for this approach — either because they depend too much on sharing memory with the rest of the program, or because they’re too performance-sensitive to accept the modest overhead incurred — but we’ve identified a number of other good candidates,” Mozilla’s Bobby Holley explains in a blog post.

The new version of Firefox also reduces the CPU usage on macOS and WindowsServer during event processing, while also enabling Site Isolation for all users. This latter improvement should help the browser better protect users against side-channel attacks, such as the already famous Spectre.

Mozilla says it has also further optimized the power usage of software decoded video on macOS, so overall, users should notice substantial improvements especially on streaming sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
