Mozilla officially released today the Firefox 61 web browser for all supported platforms, including Windows, GNU/Linux, and macOS, with another layer of performance improvements.

As we revealed yesterday when Mozilla pushed the final release of Firefox 61 through the download servers for Windows, Linux and Mac, this release introduces several enhancements to make the popular and open source web browser more realiable, stable, and easy to use while improving productivity.

A key feature of the Firefox 61 release is the ability to switch between tabs a lot faster than on previous versions of the web browser. However, this improvement was only implemented on Windows and Linux platforms. In addition, Firefox 61 easier access to more search engines in the address bar for all platforms.

“You can now add search engines to the address bar “Search with” tool from the page action menu when on a webpage that provides an OpenSearch plugin,” said Mozilla. On the other hand, Mac users can now share links more easily from the Page Actions menu in the address bar.

Improved security, more consistent user experience

The Firefox 61 web browser also improves security by enabling support for the latest draft of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 specification and by restricting access to FTP (File Transfer Protocol) subresources found inside HTTP and HTTPS web pages. More details about these changes can be found here.

The overall user experience was made more consistent across all  supported platforms by improving the dark theme and bookmark syncing, as well as by addding support for WebExtenions to hide tabs. Also, Firefox 61 moves the settings for customizing the New Tab and Homepage to the Preferences section.

You can download the Firefox 61 web browser for on GNU/LinuxMicrosoft Windows, and macOS right now through our website or update via OTA (Over-the-Air) updates on Windows and Mac. Please note that while Firefox 61 comes as an update to Firefox 60, it is not an ESR (Extended Support Release) version.
