Research indicates the mini accounts for 5% of iPhone sales

Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup includes a little something for everybody, including a mini model for those who want a smaller iPhone.

But as it turns out, the number of people buying an iPhone 12 mini isn’t as big as Apple expected it to be, with research published by Counterpoint for Reuters indicating that the 5.4-inch model accounted for just 5 percent of all iPhone sales in the first half of January in the United States.

And while at first glance this is just a small drop that could allow the iPhone 12 mini to recover and boost sales in the long term, there’s a chance this doesn’t happen, as the higher demand for larger phones seems to suggest that the days of small screens are numbered.

iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, all sold better than the iPhone 12 mini, and people familiar with the matter said Apple has even adjusted the production in an attempt to respond to this dropping demand for its 5.4-inch smartphone.

Adjusting the production

In other words, Apple wants to build fewer minis and more Pros, and it’s even believed that the company could at one point suspend the production completely in order to align the production with the demand.

Needless to say, Apple has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to the iPhone 12 mini, but it’s believed the company is also getting ready to launch a new affordable iPhone in the spring of this year.

This new model could be a larger version of the iPhone SE, and it could eventually be called iPhone SE Plus, though a confirmation in this regard is not available. In fact, everything should be taken with a healthy pinch of salt at this point, as Apple doesn’t typically comment on how its iPhones sell worldwide.
