Just like Twitter, Meta now has a subscription service

Subscription services seem to be the next big thing in the social platform space. After Twitter, which launched its Twitter Blue not a long time ago, Facebook is next to embrace this approach.

Meta Verified is a program announced by Mark Zuckerberg himself only a few hours ago, and just like in the case of Twitter, it provides users with a blue tick to show the world they’re paying members.

But more important, Meta Verified also comes with a series of other benefits, including direct customer support and the option to verify the account with a government ID.

And last but not least, Zuckerberg says all subscribers get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be someone else, so in many ways, this new service makes perfect sense for celebrities and well-known figures across the world.

For now, however, the program is limited to Australia and New Zealand, with more countries to get it soon. Zuckerberg hasn’t provided any specifics on this front though.

As for how much you’ll have to pay to get verified on Facebook, prices start at $11.99 a month on the web. On iPhone, the program is more expensive and costs $14.99 a month.

“This week we're starting to roll out Meta Verified -- a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support. This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services. Meta Verified starts at $11.99 / month on web or $14.99 / month on iOS. We'll be rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon,” Zuckerberg announced.

There’s still no word as to when the program could make its way to Android.
