Project expands the Lumia screen to a monitor

Microsoft is officially a dual-screen device manufacturer now, as the Surface Duo is up for pre-order, with shipping to start on September 10.

But while the software giant investing in mobile devices once again is good news, not everybody is a fan of Android, so some people keep dreaming about a Windows phone with Surface Duo capabilities.

This is what Twitter user @imbushuo has more or less managed to achieve, as he created a Lumia 950 XL with “two screens”: one on the mobile device itself and another one on a PC monitor.

Certainly, this doesn’t sound like big news for you, as the Lumia 950 already supported Continuum, a feature that allowed users to connect phones to bigger screens and thus be provided with a desktop-optimizing experience powered by Windows 10 Mobile.

But what the developer managed to do is turn the PC monitor into an expansion of the phone screen, allowing you to move windows from one screen to another with just a drag and drop. Everything works pretty much like a dual-monitor configuration on a Windows 10 desktop, only that this time the whole thing is powered by a Windows 10 Mobile device.

Windows Phone is dead

While such a hack obviously makes the Lumia 950 XL even cooler, it’s not like it helps save the device anyway.

Microsoft has already stopped releasing Windows 10 Mobile updates, and all Lumia devices are now officially abandoned. So if you want a Microsoft mobile device, your only option is to go for the Surface Duo, albeit that means you need to stick with Android too.

If anything, Microsoft has already suggested that a second-generation Duo is almost certainly coming, which means that the company doesn’t want to stop here. Unfortunately for Windows Phone fans, there’s a very big chance that Microsoft will just stick with Android in the long term.
