The official DTS Sound Unbound app has finally made it to the Microsoft Store and Windows 10 version 1903 users can download it right now free of charge.

Microsoft and DTS started the work on the app a few months ago, and early functionality was included in preview builds of Windows 10 shipped to users enrolled in the Windows Insider program.

The immersive audio experience, which helps improve audio quality in games and movies, is currently not available for 44.1kHz headphones due to what is described as a limitation of Microsoft Spatial sound.

“DTS is working closely with Microsoft to address this functionality,” the company says.

Limited trial

DTS Sound Unbound app requires Windows 10 version 1903, or May 2019 Update and offers a series of optimizations that are specifically aimed at delivering better audio experience in games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Assassin’s Creed Origins and Metro Exodus.

“DTS:X and DTS Headphone:X technologies deliver immersive, ultra-realistic, 3D audio when using Microsoft Spatial sound within Windows, rendering clear, rich, and dynamic spatial audio for the most engaging listening experiences on speakers and headphones,” the official description published in the Microsoft Store explains.

“DTS:X technology enables playback of your favorite DTS-encoded content creating lifelike, multi-dimensional audio for the PC. Elevate your movie watching experience with improved immersion and realism that makes horror movies scarier, comedies funnier, and brings you into the center of the action.”

While the application can be installed free of charge from the Microsoft Store, users are provided with a free trial to see what the DTS experience is all about. An in-app purchase allows customers to purchase DTS Headphone:X, which also includes the DTS:X decoder, but at the same time, the app also makes it possible to purchase the decoder only.
