iOS 16.3.1 seems to break down Google’s application

iOS 16.3.1 is here with several important fixes, and while many iPhone owners rush to install it because of course, it looks like some of them might want to wait a little bit longer. Especially if they are diehard Google Photos app users, that is.

According to several reports online, Google’s app appears to be broken down by the new iPhone software update, down to a point where, well, you can just remove it.

That’s right, the app is completely unusable after the latest iPhone operating system update, as Google Photos crashes instantly when trying to launch on both iPhones and iPads.

The fix? There’s no such thing right now, as Google is most likely looking into the problem as we speak, though I expect the company to come up with a patch in the coming hours.

This means users should be able to launch Google Photos on their up-to-date iPhones later today, but for now, this is just a guess, as Google hasn’t confirmed the work on a fix.

iOS 16.3.1 fixes an actively exploited vulnerability

Now here’s the bigger problem.

iOS 16.3.1 not only comes with important bug fixes but also resolves a critical security vulnerability that is already being exploited in the wild. In other words, the new operating system update must be installed as soon as possible to block any potential exploit.

If you’re running Google Photos on your device, the choice is hard. I would personally install iOS 16.3.1 and wait for Google to come up with a patch, as the search giant shouldn’t need too much time to fix the whole thing.

As I said, I expect the updated version of Google Photos to go live later today, so for now, updating iOS seems to be the smarter thing to do.
