The community might be on to something here

Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL users are reporting a significant bump in performance after stopping the Digital Wellbeing app in Android.

Both the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL were very well received by the community, and they are already available for sale at different carriers and from the Google Store. This means that it’s already in the hands of actual users, which in turn are starting to report some problems.

Each new generation of Google phones, albeit Nexus or Pixel, had problems after launch. Most of the issues were patched and fixed, and from the looks of it, this latest problem reported by users fits very well in that category.

Digital Wellbeing might be the culprit

Reddit users are reporting that stopping the Digital Wellbeing app on their phones lead to much better performance, translated into less or no stuttering. It’s still unclear why this would happen, and it’s even possible that Digital Wellbeing is not at fault.

It’s not unlikely that some sensor or other function that’s used by Digital Wellbeing is the reason for the performance problems, and stopping the service fixes the issue, temporary.

What’s even more interesting is that some users are reporting seeing a performance increase for their original Pixel 3 devices, which in theory should have been affected.

From what the people are reporting, the issue is not present on all devices, so pinpointing the culprit could be quite tricky. And to top it all off, it’s also a possibility that Google is not even aware of the issue, at least not yet.

The Digital Wellbeing service can be stopped from the Settings, Usage Access, or uninstalled if you have root access.

The Pixel 3a and it’s big brother, the Pixel 3a XL were released just a couple of days ago. They are sold as midrange devices, with a $400 starting point. The great thing about it is the fact that they are using one of the best cameras around, along with great software.
