Bungie is not saying what kind of content it is adding

The development team at Bungie has been silent over the holiday period, but it seems that it plans to start 2016 with the announcement of a new major piece of downloadable content pack for Destiny, which will apparently be called The Dawning.

A new e-mail sent out to the player base mentions the existence of the DLC and that it might be introduced in February of this year, but it does not offer any kind of information about its nature or about any other tweaks that might be made to the social shooter.

Destiny players now have access to the 15 Strange Coins, 15 Motes of Light and the special Emblem that were promised before the end of the year, which means that they have the options to make some tweaks to their characters before the major action starts.

Bungie is planning to introduce new details about its future plans starting on January 21, but the company is not saying whether it will deliver an official announcement about the coming DLC or whether it will only tease it.

The Dawning sounds like the kind of name that Bungie would use for a Destiny event, and a new forum post details some of the items that have been added to the database for the shooter to prepare for it.

Bungie has said that its first new content drop for 2016 will be similar in size to the Festival of the Lost and that it has plans to then introduce a much bigger event that will offer about the same amount of new experiences as The Taken King expansion.

Destiny's 2016 events will be delivered for free

While they wait for the new content to arrive, gamers can take part in a new edition of the Iron Banner Player versus Player mode, which comes complete with a range of new rewards for Guardians.

Before the end of the month, Trials of Osiris might be also brought back to the game in order to offer some more variety when it comes to team-based action.

Bungie has also suggested that it might deliver a new take on the Sparrow Racing League later in the year and that another entirely new mode for the game might also be in development.

It's unclear whether the content drops planned for 2016 will introduce an entirely new raid, which the community has been asking for recently despite the tweaks made to King's Fall by the developers.

According to the studio, the revenue derived from the sale of emotes delivered via the Eververse Trading Company to fund the new content creation and delivery and new ones might be introduced in the coming months.

Activision has been saying that a paid expansion for Destiny might also be introduced in 2016, although no details about it have been mentioned by the publisher.

Rumors are also saying that most of the resources of Bungie are dedicated to creating a full sequel for the social shooter, which might be delivered on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 during the fall.
