14 DAY TRIAL // Great news for Ys fans, as the prequel to the eight previous installations of the Ys franchise, is coming to Nintendo Switch this year. Published by Dotemu, the action RPG will be available in physical and digital formats, but a Collector’s Edition will be released as well.
According to the publisher, fans in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand can choose between one of two physical versions coming to retailers as part of a global distribution for Ys Origin’s physical Nintendo Switch release, or experience the modernized classic through the eShop.
It's worth adding that fans who opt for the physical release can choose between a standard version and a special collector’s edition. Once Ys Origin launches on Switch, the standard version will also be made available for PlayStation 4 at retail.
Keep in mind that Ys Origin was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017 and 2018, respectively, but if you want a physical version of the game on the PS4, you'll be able to get one later this year.
For newcomers to the series, Ys Origin takes place 700 years before the event of the first game, Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished. The game lets you play one of the three main characters and by completing it with each one, you will be able to see more dimensions to the story.
Each playable character has a separate story, combat style, and skillset, so replayability is quite high, especially if you want to know about the story. Unlike any of the other Ys series games, the prequel plays like a dungeon crawler since it takes place within a single location: the massive Darm Tower.
Ys Origin promises tons of powerful loot to earn, distinct scenarios, and playstyles between each character as well as secrets to unveil, so expect a deep, compelling RPG experience. Although the Nintendo Switch version of the game doesn't have a release date yet, we're certain we'll get more info on the matter in the next couple of month, just don't despair if you're a fan of the series.
