Dell isn’t all about Windows devices, and today the company proved that it’s also committed to Chromebooks too, going beyond the approach of most companies involved in this particular product category and focusing on more than entry-level models.

The new Inspiron 14 2-in-1 Chromebook gets closer to a premium device with features that aren’t so easy to find in the Chrome OS device lineup, including a convertible form factor and a pen to truly unleash this design.

In addition to running Chrome OS, this device comes with full support for Android apps, and coupled with pen support, it’s easy to see where this is going. The new Inspiron can easily double as a very productive Android machine that can also play the role of a laptop when needed.

Technical specifications

In terms of hardware, Dell’s new device doesn’t really excel, but it does come with specs that make it quite a smart buy. The Chromebook is powered by an 8th-Gen Intel Core i3 processor and 4GB RAM, and it can be ordered with up to 128GB of storage. It features two USB-C ports and one USB port.

When compared to Windows laptops, this isn’t something to be truly impressed with, but for Chromebooks, it’s more than you need. Expect the laptop to run smoothly given this configuration, and to also handle most Android apps pretty effortlessly.

At $599.99, Dell’s new Inspiron is aiming for a premium feel, so instead of plastic, the company has opted to use aluminum, which is typically more expensive and is thus being used on at least mid-range devices.

The 14-inch device will go on sale in North America on October 23, and at this point, there are no details as to when it could hit the shelves in other markets. However, expect the Inspiron to become available elsewhere by the end of the year as well.
