Devolver Digital is known for its impressive lineup of quirky indie games, so every time the publisher announces a new title, it’s unlikely that it won’t be good. That being said, the successful publisher announced its latest game, Inscryption is coming from offbeat indie developer Daniel Mullins (Pony Island, The Hex).

Described as an “abominable deck-building roguelike,” Inscryption is coming to PC (via Steam) on October 19. Pre-orders are now open, and a 10% discount is now available for those who buy the game before launch. Those who don’t trust Devolver Digital’s pedigree can download the free demo to get a glimpse at the game’s mechanics.

Speaking of gameplay mechanics, Inscryption is as weird as you’d expect from a game published by Devolver Digital. The game mixes quite a lot of genres, including deckbuilding, horror, roguelike, and puzzles.

From the creator of Pony Island and The Hex comes the latest mind melting, self-destructing love letter to video games. Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie.”

The plot feels like it’s been inspired by the Saw series: “trapped at the mercy of a sadistic stranger known only as Leshy, acquire a deck of woodland creature cards by draft, surgery, and self-mutilation, as you seek to unlock the secrets lurking behind his cabin walls.”

Judging by what we saw in the launch trailer, Inscryption shapes up to be a rather unique horror game with card-based combat. The roguelike elements is tied to the progression, which seems to be inspired by other card games like Slay the Spire and Rogue Lords.

That’s about all we get about Inscryption, but between the new and the free demo now available on Steam, card game addicts will surely find everything they need to know about the game.
