The Debian-based SolydXK Linux operating system has been updated today with patches for the Meltdown security vulnerability, as well as various other new features and improvements.

To mitigate the Meltdown security exploit that allows a locally installed program to access the memory, including the kernel memory, and steal sensitive information like passwords and encryption keys, the SolydXK 201801 ISO images are now powered by the latest kernel release with patches against this vulnerability.

"All SolydXK ISOs are fully updated, including the latest kernel release with the Meltdown vulnerability patch," notes the developer in today's announcement. This means that all SolydXK users should update their installations as soon as possible to protect their computers against Meltdown attacks.

The developer didn't share any information on the patches for the Spectre security vulnerability, which is harder to fix than Meltdown and the industry is still trying to find some optimal solutions, but at least you should update the microcode firmware of your Intel or AMD processors.

It's now safe to remove old kernel packages

Among some of the new features added in the SolydXK 201801 release, we can mention the integration of Device Driver Manager (DDM) and Debian Plymouth Manager programs, the addition of new partitions to /etc/fstab, and the ability to safely remove old kernel packages from the system.

On top of that, the SolydXK 201801 ISOs introduce a new system configuration tool called SolydXK System Settings, and ditches the LetoDMS document management system business app from the Welcome Screen and the repositories as the developer couldn't make it work, recommending users to use SeedDMS instead.

Last but not least, there are now German localized ISOs of SolydX and SolydK for 64-bit systems, which you can download from the project's homepage. As for the SolydXK 201801 release, you can download the SolydX (with Xfce desktop) and SolydK (with KDE desktop) ISO images right now through our website for your 64-bit computers.
