14 DAY TRIAL // The development team behind the Netrunner Linux project released Netrunner Rolling 2019.04, the April 2019's snapshot of the rolling release version of Netrunner Linux OS based on Arch Linux.
Following on the January 2019 release of Netrunner 19.01, the non-rolling release based on the Debian Testing branch of the Debian GNU/Linux operating system, Netrunner Rolling 2019.04 is here with the KDE Plasma 5.15.3 desktop environment accompanied by the KDE Applications 18.12.3 and KDE Frameworks 5.56 software suites, all built against the Qt 5.12.2 application framework.
Netrunner Rolling 2019.04 also ships with the latest Mozilla Firefox 66.0.3 "Quantum" web browser by default, featuring integration with the KDE Plasma desktop environment and native KDE file dialog support. The Mozilla Thunderbird 60.6 email and news client is present as well in this release, which is powered by the Linux 4.19.32 LTS kernel.
"There are two things to keep in mind regarding the way we ship Firefox in Rolling, a) the file associations for most files is handled via "System Handler" from GTK to KDE Plasma, so best is to leave that on and change only if needed, b) Firefox in Rolling comes pre-loaded, that means a process is started into the systray to be available almost instantly when wanting to open it," explains the developers in the release announcement.
New look and feel, improvements for Web Apps
Similar to Netrunner 19.01, Netrunner Rolling 2019.04 comes with a new look and feel featuring a dark theme powered by the Kvantum theme engine, which offers a more modern, 3D-looking design. Additionally, a light glow will now appear when users activate the "Minimize All Windows to Show Desktop" function, and returning to the classic look is now much easier.
Other than that, Netrunner Rolling 2019.04 adds a new category in the Applications menu called "Webapps" where you'll be able to access all of your Web Apps, and all the UI-related KCM modules have been unified under a main section in the Sidebar Layout called "Plasma Tweaks."
