Deathtrap Dungeon, the classic Fighting Fantasy gamebook by Ian Livingstone, is getting a game next year. As we reported more than a month ago, the folks over at Branching Narrative announced plans to turn the Ian Livingstone's gamebook, Deathtrap Dungeon into a game.

Since there will be a lot of text in the game, Branching Narrative thought it would be wise to bring British actor Eddie Marsan on board, famous for his roles in Ray Donovan, Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw, Deadpool 2 and many other blockbusters.

Eddie has been cast as narrator and guide in the game “in a high-quality interactive video production that faithfully recreates the beloved fantasy book.” Today, Branching Narrative announced that fans of the genre will be able to play Deathtrap Dungeon well ahead of its scheduled release.

The studio will be unveiling a playable build of its first gaming title, Deathtrap Dungeon, at EGX, taking place at the ExCel London between Thursday 17 and Sunday 20 October. Players will get to see the company’s new Interactive Fiction engine, but they will also get to meet Eddie Marsan.

For those unaware, Deathtrap Dungeon was originally released in 1984 and challenges the player to survive the Trial of Champions that takes place in the labyrinth of Fang, full of fiendish traps and deadly creatures set by the devious Baron Sukumvit.

As far as the gameplay goes, Deathtrap Dungeon will be delivered as a video stream that prompts the user to make choices and direct the flow, offering enhanced gameplay over other recent high-profile ‘interactive movie’ offerings, fully utilizing the mechanics from the book.

Currently, Deathtrap Dungeon is due for release on PC, Mac, and Mobile later this year, commemorating the 35th anniversary of the book’s original publication, with other formats including console to follow in 2020.
