The maps size in Cyberpunk 2077 is a little bit smaller than the one in The Witcher 3, but the developers from CD Projekt are saying that it’s full of life and much denser.

CD Project made a name for itself with The Witcher series, and they have yet to strike out with any of their games. One of the reasons is the fact that the worlds they create feel alive, with a purpose. It’s not just filling out space to extend the size of the map; it’s an integral part of the gameplay.

Each new iteration in The Witcher series had bigger and bigger maps, with more things to do. In a way, CD Projekt thought the player to expect bigger maps, but it seems they won’t do that for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, but it’s very likely they don’t need to.

Bigger maps are not always better

Since it’s their world, the developers could have made the game world as large as they wanted, but it’s about quality. In an interview with GamesRadar, producer Richard Borzymowski explained that the world is going to be much denser, which is to be expected in an overcrowded city.

“If you look at pure surface square kilometers, then Cyberpunk 2077 might even be a little bit smaller than The Witcher 3, but it’s the density of the content, taking the world of The Witcher and squeezing it right in, deleting the wilderness between. Obviously...in The Witcher we were an open world with vast lanes and forests in between smaller cities and larger cities like Novigrad, but in Cyberpunk 2077 we’re set in Night City.”

The makers of Cyberpunk 2077 already promised that no loading screens, but the span of NightCity will become much more obvious in the upcoming live stream that is scheduled on August 30th.
