LinkedIn app no longer supports Windows 10

The official LinkedIn app for Windows 10 has dropped support for Windows 10 and is now directing users to the website of the business social network.

The Microsoft-own app can still be installed from the Microsoft Store, only that it no longer works, with the following message displayed on launch:

“LinkedIn is removing support for this app on Windows, and you will now be automatically directed to your default browser. Your network, profile, and the rest of your LinkedIn experience is available as always in your browser and the LinkedIn mobile app.”

Neither Microsoft nor LinkedIn released an official announcement on the app going away from the Microsoft Store, so it’s still not clear if the company is working on another app for Windows 10 or it just wants to give up on Windows 10 entirely.

Android and iOS focus

The later option seems uncanny, to say the least, as Microsoft itself has been struggling to convince developers to code for its platform. And it goes without saying that not supporting your own apps on your platform is a questionable strategy that could easily convince developers to go elsewhere, and this elsewhere most often means Android and iOS.

For the time being, the LinkedIn website is pretty much the only option for those on Windows 10 who want to connect to the network, and truth be told, you won’t feel like you’re losing anything as compared to the experience with the app.

Of course, LinkedIn apps for Android and iOS not only that continue to exist, but they also receive updates regularly, so if you want to connect to this service using your mobile device, there’s no reason to worry about Microsoft not being committed to these clients in the long term. In fact, the software giant does seem to be more committed to Android and iOS rather than to its own platforms anyway, so giving up on the Windows 10 app seems to be just classic Microsoft.
