Square Enix is bringing the first Dragon Quest games to Nintendo Switch. The Japanese developer announced the classic Dragon Quest I, Dragon Quest II and Dragon Quest III games will be released for the Nintendo Switch on September 27.

The new release will offer newcomers to the series that chance to discover the origins of the critically-acclaimed RPG series and the entire Erdrick trilogy in Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line and Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.

Apparently, Square Enix has decided to make each title available for purchase separately instead of including them in a bundle. That being said, fans of the series will have to pay $4.99 for the original Dragon Quest game, while Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line will be priced at $6.49. Finally, Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation will be available digitally for $12.49.

The announcement doesn't mention any visual improvements that Square Enix might have included in the Switch version of the games, but it does say that the collection of classic titles will feature “simple and intuitive controls that mimic retro gameplay, paying homage to where the legacy began.”

For those new to the series, here is a quick rundown of what you'll find in the first three Dragon Quest games. The Erdrick trilogy starts in the original Dragon Quest game where players begin their voyage as the “Hero,” a descendant of the valiant hero Erdrick in an epic journey through the historic realm of Alefgard.

The second installment in the series, Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line takes place a century later and stars young prince of Midenhall, an iconic figure who embarks on a journey to find the other two descendants of Erdrick to defeat the nefarious Hargon.

The third and final title in the Erdrick trilogy, Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation will take players through the land of Aliahan, where a young hero has been charged with an impossible task of slaying Baramos, another emblematic evil known to those who played the games back in the 80s.
