14 DAY TRIAL // If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone and a Windows PC, you probably know by now that you need Samsung USB Drivers and Odin3 in order to mess with your device's software. You can use the software if you want to change the ROM, Modem, boot, root, etc, on your phone. So there is always room to tweak something in the Android ecosystem if you have the will to try.
Still, don't forget that doing so comes with repercussions: there are 99 percent chances that you'll trip KNOX, and you will probably lose warranty on your phone.
On the other hand, when you want to try the same thing on your Mac, you are faced with a big problem.
While we would normally use Bootcamp or a Virtual Machine Windows installation, now we have at hand another, more direct option.
What we have in mind is a Java ported application, called JOdin3, which works perfectly on Mac, via Heimdall.
How to proceed
In order to use JOdin3, there are some requisites to be taken into account: - Oracle Java JRE for Mac - JOdin3 - Heimdall - DO NOT have Samsung Kies for Mac installed; see here how to uninstall it - USB cable - "Debugging Mode" enabled on your phone settings - at least 50% battery charge on your phone - the necessary files (usually tar.gz or .tar.md5, custom ROM or firmware )
The good news is that there are a lot of guides that show you how to use Odin for Windows, and since the Mac version has the same interface, so you can effortlessly follow any tutorial.
On Startup, jOdIn3 (JOdin3CASUAL.jar) will check if Heimdall is installed, so you’d better have all the software installed when you first start the application.
The phone must have "Debugging Mode" enabled, and it needs to be in "Download Mode." For this, power down the phone, then start it by pressing the Volume Down + Home + Power buttons at the same time. When it enters "Download Mode," connect the USB cable to your Mac and start Jodin3. Before entering "Recovery Mode," however, make sure your phone is connected. You should see the Connected message on JOdin3.
