Activision and Sledgehammer Games have taken the wraps off the next installment in the critically acclaimed Call of Duty franchise, and judging by what has been revealed, the series is going back to its roots.

Call of Duty: Vanguard focuses on the origins of the Special Forces, which go way back to World War II. Players must form Task Force One in an intense campaign across four major theaters of war.

The folks at Sledgehammer also revealed some of the new characters we’re going to meet throughout the campaign: Sergeant Arthur Kingsley, 9th Parachute Battalion, British Army, Lieutenant Polina Petrova of the 138th Rifle Division, Red Army, Lieutenant Wade Jackson, Scouting Squadron Six, United States Navy, and Private Lucas Riggs, 20th Battalion, Australian 9th Infantry Division, British Eighth Army.

They will be the main heroes of Call of Duty: Vanguard, the first to come together to form Task Force One and set the stage for Special Forces. The game will take players over the Midway Islands and France, and across Stalingrad and North Africa.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Call of Duty game without a Zombies mode. Call of Duty: Vanguard features an all-new, franchise-first crossover Zombies game mode that’s been mainly developed by Treyarch Studios, the team behind Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. More details about this mode will be revealed soon, so stay tuned for this one.

Last but not least, Call of Duty: Vanguard will launch with a massive day one multiplayer offering, with 20 diverse maps, including 16 designed for core gameplay. Sledgehammer promises plenty of multiplayer innovations, such as the ability to customize your weapons like never before using the advanced Gunsmith.

Also, a new Caliber system will be added too, which brings immersive and reactive environments to a new level, as well as having an impact on destruction and fire rate. The game will also include an enhanced version of the 2v2 Gunfight mode introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – Champion Hill.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is set for release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC on November 5.
